Join Austin based video art collective, Austin Video Bee (AVB), for a screening of their latest themed video compilation, Compound Fantasy. AVB members Sally Bergom, Leigh Brodie, Michelle Devereux, Elana Farley, Amanda Joy, Ivan Lozano, Matti Sloman, Kate Watson, and Lee Webster explore themes of collectivity, utopia, composites, and fantasy through short video works.

Handmade Austin Women presents their 5th Annual Spring Show and Sale, "Art in the Garden" this weekend! Join them for a family-friendly art event with an eclectic mix of handmade art and musical marionette matinees, ukulele and live musical performances. Indulge yourself with a tasty treat and a tall coffee or iced tea as you make your way through the show.

Announcing the 2010 Austin Middle School 8x10 Arts Show & Competition!

The Austin area’s 6th, 7th and 8th grade art students are cordially invited to participate in a show and competition of their work in the following categories:

• painting
• drawing
• printmaking
• sculpture
• mixed media

The work will be judged by area gallery directors, professional artists, and museum curators.

Prizes will be awarded at a reception and awards ceremony – a pizza party for students, friends and families. The reception and awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 9th, from 3-5 pm at Jerry’s, and the artwork will be on display until May 22nd.

ALL work must be done in the 8” x 10” (including mats) format (i.e.: 8x10 canvases, Bristol board, sculpture, etc) and be able to be displayed standing on ledge molding or from a nail. Jerry’s has 8x10 canvases available for participants. No frames or glass, please.

The idea for the show’s format was borrowed from The Arthouse at the Jones Center 5x7 Show, held in Austin, every year in May, for Texas professional artists. Unlike the charity Arthouse event, the work of our students can be for sale and all proceeds will go to the young artist (the work DOES NOT have to be for sale). We hope this will be the continuation of an Austin Art tradition (this is the 3rd year for this event), and there will be media coverage!

This is a fantastic opportunity to expose your students to the art of their peers, competition with prizes, and having their work appear in a public venue.

Teachers can enter more than one piece of work for a student, but no more than 50 entries from any one school.

There is no fee for this competition, and the deadline for submission is 6 p.m., Friday, April 30th, at Jerry’s.

Teachers are asked to help place their student’s work that day and PLEASE have it labeled on the back with:

Student’s Name, Grade, and Age

Medium, Title, and Sale Price or NFS (not for sale)

Name of School

Teacher’s Name, Contact Phone Number, and e-mail

Teachers must pick up their students’ work by May 26 th.

Jerry's Going Green

For those of you who have been to our store recently, you've probably noticed that we have signs announcing we are Going Green! This is refering to the fact that we are no longer mailing our flyers and we are encouraging everyone to join our e-mail list. However, this is not the only way we are doing our part to reduce, reuse, recycle. The dragon you see here is made ENTIRELY from Jerry's cardboard and palettes from our deliveries. This is going to be a stage for the upcoming South By Southwest Music Festival at the Monofonus Studio. Jerry's Artarama is a big fan of this art collective and we thank you for putting our cardboard and palettes to such good use.
