JEREMY MAYER
Artist Jeremy Mayer (Oakland, CA) made this deer out of recycled typewriter parts. I know Austin is kind of a mecca for recycled & found object art, but I'm not sure that I've seen anything this stunning here (although my neighbor's front yard is a good effort).
Also, he says that he doesn't "solder, weld, or glue these assemblages together- the process is entirely cold assembly," which to me makes it all the more impressive. Has anyone seen anything like this in Austin?

I'm in love with these beautiful pieces by Spanish illustrator Raquel Aparicio. Such a great use of watercolor/inks and washes.

MAKING FUTURE MAGIC
One of the most interesting things about new technologies is the direction they take when creative people get their hands on them. Here's a pretty creative use for Apple's iPad:

1:30pm-4pm
Free!
Please join us at the store this Saturday, Sept. 11th from 1:30 - 4pm for a special Figure Drawing demonstration lead by David Tenorio of the Cordovan Art School.
Figure drawing is one of the best "hands on" demos offered for those wishing to improve their drawing skills. Working from a live model, we will warm up with gesture drawings and then concentrate on a long pose. Let our award-winning artists help you see and understand the "rules" for drawing the human figure. The models will be clothed.
The demo is free, but we have a limited number of seats (only 15 - but overflow is welcome to stand by and watch), so make sure you register soon!
Sign up now by emailing rose@cordovanartschool.com.
