Paint Tubes, FW Ink, SOHO Drafting Chairs

This week's goodies:
  1. EMPTY PAINT TUBES are back! Our previous vendor stopped making them but we now have a new one: in stock now.

  2. FW INKS are back! After much delay, we are proud to offer your favorite ink again: in stock now.

  3. NEW: CHARVIN PAINTING MEDIUMS. Due in one week all the way from France.

  4. NEW: SOHO URBAN ARTIST DRAFTING CHAIRS. Due in one week at a price I'm sure you'll love.

  5. AMPERSAND BOARDS all varieties have arrived and in stock.

If you've never used one, you should try them: you'll never want a canvas again! When in doubt, use Clayboard: the kaolin surface is a perfect binder for watercolor (think hot-press; Aquaboard better for cold-press fans), mixed-media, collage, encaustic, and more. Gessoboard will give the oil or acrylic painter looking for that "smooth surface" the most delicious experience ever.

Boards cradled with beautiful birch need no frame. WARNING: addictive.

  6. COOL: PANACHE CALLIGRAPHY SETS and refill cartridges. Even ones for lefties!
Upcoming: Charvin walnut oil (yes you heard it!), bookbinding supplies, and Soho watercolor.

JOSHUA SAUNDERS AT CO-LAB

Make sure you make it out to Co-Lab (613 Allen St. Austin TX 78702) this Saturday or Sunday to see an installation by our staff-member Joshua Saunders. It will make you believe!

Installation: Saturday, December 5, 7-11PM
Open Hours: Sunday, December 6, 12-5PM

Hanged man is a collection of items purchased from the blue hanger and then organized over the course of two years. All the items belonging to this collection were previously owned by someone the collector has never known. There are serious variations within the collection, some items feel like an inside joke, while others invite you to remember the terminal nature of a human lifespan. Some items seem topical while others seem very intimate. Some items make the collection itself feel inappropriate and distort the idea of ownership. Hanged man is about intrinsic value and what items we define our lives with in relation to a saturation point in which items that appear as treasures take on the transient life of trash. The organization of these materials hopes to offer a momentary glance in to the lives of those you don't know while provoking thoughts about self projection in conjunction with personal ownership and value.

Jerry's Going Green

For those of you who have been to our store recently, you've probably noticed that we have signs announcing we are Going Green! This is refering to the fact that we are no longer mailing our flyers and we are encouraging everyone to join our e-mail list. However, this is not the only way we are doing our part to reduce, reuse, recycle. The dragon you see here is made ENTIRELY from Jerry's cardboard and palettes from our deliveries. This is going to be a stage for the upcoming South By Southwest Music Festival at the Monofonus Studio. Jerry's Artarama is a big fan of this art collective and we thank you for putting our cardboard and palettes to such good use. Check out Monofonus' website: http://monofonuspress.com/ and be sure to stop by there to see great bands such as The Roller and Microfiche.

Book Binding Class

We had a great turn out for Wendy Davis' Book Binding class this past Saturday March 7th. In only three hours all 18 students left with a beautiful hand-made book. Thank You Wendy for such an informative and inspiring class. This was the first time that Jerry's hosted a class of this size and it was a learning experience for us all. Please post comments about what worked or didn't work about the set up in the middle of the store. Thanks to all that made this happen!
